The concept
The People inaugurates a new lifestyle hostelry concept.
It’s the advent of a new generation of hybrid accommodation, aimed not just at traditional backpackers, but at all ages and all traveler profiles. Families, couples, solo adventurers, employees on seminars, long-term stays or last-minute bookings… The People opens the doors of contemporary hostelry to everyone.
The destination
The People is set up where it’s needed: right in the center of a capital city or metropolis, in lively or emerging neighborhoods that are easy to get to, close to vibrant cultural venues… At the opposite end of the spectrum from standardization, The People prefers to set up shop in atypical and inspiring spaces: a rehabilitated former tobacco factory, the latest creation of a great architect, a rooftop with a view over the city, and so on. The People is part of the history of a place and a territory: our addresses are fully involved in local life. The guarantee for travelers that they’re in the right place, at the right time, in the right company.
The experience
The People shatters traditional hotel benchmarks and reshuffles the cards of contemporary travel.
The People is you, it’s us. It’s a meeting between nomads from different horizons and the locals, and the magic of the place and its cool atmosphere do the rest. Authenticity, sharing, quality and responsible commitment are at the heart of this experience to be lived in unison with one another. Thanks to the XXL smiles and attentive service of our teams, and the perfectly thought-out atmosphere of our addresses, The People boasts the originality of a new art of living.
The price
Whether you’re a young family with children, a couple in love, students on the move, a solo traveler on a world tour, a team of employees or even a professional on the move, The People guarantees the best service at an affordable price.
Services
The People offers all the advantages of a hostel with the comfort and security of a hotel.
Rooms
Happiness is in the mix. The People offers three types of room.
- Private en-suite rooms, some with balconies.
- Dormitories with six to eight beds, with or without private bathrooms, equipped with storage lockers. Shared showers for men and women are also available on the same floors as the dormitories. Designed as a designer wooden cabin, each bed is equipped with quality bedding, sheets supplied and beds made up. Colorful opaque curtains, nightlights, electrical/USB sockets and lockers with keys make them a real cocoon of intimacy. Some dormitories are reserved for female guests.
- Hybrid rooms with four to eight beds and en suite facilities. For small groups and large families.
Our basics & rituals
How do you recognize The People hostelry?
The right shower
Because in 2022, a good shower isn’t just about comfort and good pressure, The People has installed three hourglasses of different durations (three, five and seven minutes) in every bathroom (private and shared). Have you guessed what “The People shower” is all about? The aim is to keep it under three minutes!
The street-art fresco
It’s thanks to the best street-art signatures that you can recognize a The People address. From Grems in Marseille to Tim Zdey in Paris’s Marais district, these graffiti artists work in our hostels, drawing inspiration from their surroundings to create large-scale, original frescoes. We’ve given them carte blanche to mark the identity of our hostels.
Bedroom doors
Even our corridors are unique. It’s a surprise when you go upstairs: every room door has been graffitied and turned into a work of art.
The People Hour
Regulars know it well: not an evening goes by without the famous “People Hour”. To get in on the action, all you have to do is follow the signal (specific music, it’s up to you to find out which) to head for the bar to take part in a series of colorful shots (alcoholic or otherwise).
The band & Sunday brunch
Sundays are the perfect time to get together for brunch. The place to be for families and friends from the neighborhood! A merry band who love The People for its slightly regressive and very complete brunch formula. Take a look: The menu at l’étape 84, The People’s restaurant in Tours, features a gourmet, home-made sweet and savory buffet: cookies, muffins, waffles, pancakes, club sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie platters, toast, cupcakes, scrambled eggs and mini chocolate charlottes. On some weekends, Sunday is extended with children’s entertainment (glitter party: table soccer competition, giant coloring pageant, funky gospel choir, magician).
Our commitments
Limiting energy consumption, giving consumables a second life, sorting waste, promoting seasonal cuisine and favoring short distribution channels are all commitments made by The People to help protect the planet. Follow us! In collaboration with neighborhood associations, The People also supports local communities. We invite you to join us in these actions of solidarity. – Food & Fun Food and entertainment are at the heart of The People concept. Restaurant and bar extend the room and dorm experience. The hostel thus becomes a real place of festive life, offering everything you’d expect from a contemporary address: cutting-edge design and comfortable sofas, a culinary universe at affordable prices and local products à la carte, all-day reception and high-intensity evenings, a rich program (DJ, vernissage, karaoke), and quieter spaces for relaxing, teleworking or reading. Cosmopolitan teams integrated into the neighborhood do their utmost to satisfy guests and provide them with quality service. You’ll feel right at home at The People. – And also… Rent a scooter or an electric bike, take a guided stroll on a theme such as “street-art”, do a fitness session, and so on. These services are available through our partners. Various hotel services are available inside the hostel at extra cost: picnic take-away, late check-out, clothes cleaning, luggage storage, linen hire, etc.
Addresses
PARIS
In the Marais
It’s the flagship of the brand. The People has taken up residence between Bastille and the quays of the Seine, in the former administrative district of boulevard Morland, reinvented by British architect David Chipperfield as an island housing a luxury hotel, a high-end restaurant, a fitness room, an organic market… The People and its restaurant/bar Le TiTi Palacio add a contemporary, festive touch to this new complex, dubbed “Morland Mixité Capitale”. Between the sunny terraces of the Île Saint-Louis and the art galleries of the Marais, this is the ideal address for connecting to Paris’s cultural and nightlife scene. With 400 beds spreadover four floors, the TiTi Palacio’s accessible French bistronomy, its sublime bar and its relaxed atmosphere provided by interior designer Olivier Lekien. All the cool of the hostellerie nestled in a tropical design.
PARIS
In Belleville
In this trendy enclave of eastern Paris, this address radiates the hostelry’s festive art de vivre, with contemporary art galleries, street art, local grocery stores, popular restaurants and artists’ studios. There’s no better place to sample the atmosphere of working-class Paris. With its rooftop café offering a panoramic view, The People also attracts regulars from the neighborhood who frequent its weekly jazz concerts. Also karaoke and entertainment.
PARIS
At Nation
Opening onto the Place de la Nation, this address puts travelers on the right foot to enjoy the nightlife of Bastille (15 minutes away). In addition to comfortable dormitories, nine private rooms on the top floor overlook eastern Paris, and a pizzeria restaurant popular with locals has taken up residence on the roof top. On the menu: tasty pizzas, boards to share, a selection of burrata, house cocktails and beers brewed in Paris.
PARIS
At Bercy
The People’s fourth Parisian address, this hostel offers a friendly, family-friendly urban HQ in the heart of one of Paris’s greenest districts, between the coulée verte leading to the Bastille and the Reuilly hanging gardens. Relaxation guaranteed. Another rooftop for summer evenings, a terrace with table soccer and Netflix’n’chill evenings, the house specialty.
MARSEILLE
With its 20 kilometers of calanques, its cheerful atmosphere, its waltz of new museums and its unbeatable food culture, Marseille is the queen of cool blanc bleu. The People is a 10-minute walk from the TGV station and the Old Port, in an old character building in the second arrondissement, away from the hustle and bustle of the Cité Phocéenne. Its discreet terrace, transformed by a monumental fresco by street artist Grems, sets the tone: our hostel is both intimate and festive, local and cosmopolitan, quiet and central.
THE TWO ALPS
Between the northern and southern Alps, Les 2 Alpes combines sport and fun, good skiing and sunshine. Everything to please The People, who welcome guests at the foot of the slopes in a large, modern chalet. Family rooms with terraces and breathtaking views… Ski lockers (family or single size) to make life easier for skiers, a lively terrace (brazier, ice bar, crêpes) to enjoy the great outdoors while having fun, a projection room with large poufs to recover from a day on the slopes, and of course a bar and restaurant with a distinctly local feel (tartiflettes, fondues, burgers).
STRASBOURG
The People is part of the revival of the former tobacco factory. This architectural gem is currently undergoing a complete transformation in the village-like Krutenau district, close to historic Strasbourg, Notre-Dame Cathedral and the city’s famous Christmas market. This historic monument of the Alsatian capital is now decked out in pop and vintage hues (period floors and beams) and houses the hostel and its living areas in impressive spaces. The restaurant and bar menu features hyper-local beers, Alsatian traditions, a rotisserie and vegan dishes. In the near future, the site will host the best of Strasbourg’s art de vivre: small restaurants, third-party venues, a university, an art school, vegetable gardens and shared gardens.
LILLE
Just a ten-minute walk from the old town of Lille, The People has taken its place in a place familiar to all Lillois, the former Gastama pub. The brand has remained faithful to the spirit of the place. It’s not surprising, then, that the address is not lacking in footfall or warm atmosphere, between the charming courtyard outside and the dormitories and rooms nestling in the attic. The pub-like atmosphere is echoed in the restaurant, with a comfort-food-style menu (fish & chips, for example) and an impressive choice of beers at the bar.
TOURS
Just a ten-minute walk from the train station and close to the city center, The People Tours is a must for visitors to the Loire castles. It’s also an address for cyclists on the Loire à vélo, with a garage equipped to look after their bikes. Its Etape 84 restaurant delights the taste buds of visiting sports enthusiasts and Tourangeaux alike.
