After LilleLes 2 Alpes, Paris 12 and Tours, before Strasbourg in December this year and Paris Sully Morland in 2021, The People Hostel is continuing its expansion and opening Europe’s first Gallery Hostel in Marseille’s 2nd arrondissement. A fast-growing district just 10 minutes from the Old Port and the Docks. The young brand continues to roll out its “one-stop hostel” lifestyle concept, which combines the accessibility of a hostel, the conviviality of a guest house and the style of a boutique hotel, with the same passion and enthusiasm. Europe’s 1st Gallery Hostel Giant frescoes, sculptures, paintings, objects: the entire common areas and rooms are decorated in collaboration with Grems, an internationally renowned French artist. The People Hostel Marseille also features a permanent gallery that hosts artistic residencies and promotes local and international artists via a monthly program, vernissages, happenings and workshops open to children, among others, in collaboration with local schools. This project, which is firmly rooted in local life, is part of the city’s dynamic development, which in just a few years has become a mecca for urban culture and street art. A nod to the gloom The fruit of a close collaboration between the brand and artist Grems, the interior design is a blend of softness, Japanese rigor and post-graffiti freestyle. Through a rigorous language of form, a skilfully studied palette of blues and work on different types of wood, a path is mapped out that is alternately wise and boisterous, dressing the place down to the smallest object, taking us from the common areas to the bedrooms and right through to the art gallery. Small is beautiful Calm, intimacy, conviviality, arts and culture are the key words of a place conceived as a haven of peace far from the clichés of the XXL youth hostel and its din. A desire to welcome and take care of everyone, as used to be the case in small provincial hotels, where it was not uncommon to end up calling the boss by his first name. Located 15 minutes from the Saint Charles train station and 10 minutes from the port, The People Hostel Marseille welcomes solo travelers, couples and families alike, thanks to a wide range of accommodation (shared rooms, double and family rooms). Communal areas (reception, bar) open onto a large courtyard planted with trees and partly shaded. On the food front, the emphasis is on simplicity and local flavors: a low-price menu inspired by local ingredients, fresh produce and charcuterie by the slice. The bar offers signature cocktails, as well as a wide selection of local spirits and beers made in Marseille.
“This Marseilles project is the realization of a long-held dream to create an atypical place on a human scale, where local residents and travelers from all over the world can meet in a generally friendly atmosphere, bringing creativity and art within the reach of as many people as possible”, says Romain Viennois, Founder of The People Hostel. Romain Viennois, Founder of The People Hostel “TPH Marseille is a little jewel box of simplicity, mixity and local cultural abundance, true to the spirit of the city and the values of Grape Hospitality. It’s a place with a strong personality, like all the hostels we intend to create in the future.” Frédéric Josenhans, President Grape Hospitality “To be part of the lifestyle hospitality trend and offer excellent value for money can only be Nick Rogers, General Manager The People Hostel “The People Hostel Marseille has been designed for tourists, offering flexible and varied accommodation, but also for young Marseillais in need of a new space for expression and encounters. Our bar, our terrace and above all our art gallery are open to all talents in a spirit of sharing and conviviality.” Benjamin Besson, Manager The People Hostel Marseille
The reception boutique offers a selection of objects, street wear, books, accessories and local products, and can be transformed into a pop-up store for local designers.
achieved through creativity that sometimes goes off the beaten track. The People Hostel Marseille is the perfect expression of this.
